“NO SERIOUS BURDEN”
COST OF DEFENCE FORCES. GOVERNMENT MILDLY CENSURED. (By Telegraph- -Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, May 15. At a well-attended meeting of the Waipulrurau Chamber of Commerce last night, the following resolution was carried unanimously; “That, being of opinion that the present defence forces of the Dominion are not larger than are reasonably essential, or that their costs are a serious burden upon the people by comparison with the possible .price of unpreparedness, the chamber regrets that by discontinuing training camps this year the Government lias given encouragement to anti-military training advocates and so-called pacifists. Further, it is desired to record the viewpoint that, for physical, disciplinary and patriotic reasons, the youth of the Dominion is betjtered by service in the territorial forces, a 'brief period of concentrated training each ,year being highly desirable.”
