MANAIA SCHOOL
ATTENDANCE DECREASE. REPORT TO COAIAIITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Alanaia Public School' Committee was held on AYednesday night, Air A. Gamlin presiding. It was stated that further reports as results of recent examinations showed that of the two candidates for Civil Service entrance one had been successful and the total results were very satisfactory. The chairman expressed thanks from the committee and parents to all who donated goods and cash for the children’s entertainment. The headmaster reported that the attendance showed a slight falling off in comparison with last year’s figures in the primary school, but the secondary school showed an increase. Miss AtcLeod had been permanently appointed assistant in the secondary departmetn, Air AY. A. AlcKenzie assistant. and Air T. Bailev and Alisses A. Dudley and Jean Allen probationers. The roll of the primary school showed 245 names. The average attendance was 210, and the secondary school number was 46, with an average attendance of 41.2. The committee missed a vote of thanks to Airs Dick for officiating for nine weeks at the close of last year as instructress in dressmaking, and also to Air and Airs Gamlin for their interest in the children on picnic day. The chairman renorted that the shelter sheds for Glenn Road and limb a were nearly completed.
It was decided to dispense with the services of the grounds caretaker until funds are augmented. Tt was decided to hold a gala day at Kaupokomii beach on AYednesday. February 26, the ladies’ committee to meet on Monday. February 17. Tt was reported - that special interest was shown in the woodwork classes, the attendance including pupils from Okaiawa and Kapuni.
