COUNTRY HOMES BURGLED. -SUSPECTED WORK OF BOYS. (By Telegraph—Pr«ss issociatiou.) GARIERTON, Jan. 16. Two youths, apparently moved by tlie spirit of adventure, have caused quite a stir in the Pirinoa district. On Friday night they allegedly took two bicycles from the outside of the local picture theatre and decamped. It was thought, they would immediately leave the district, but apparently tlie-y had other plans, for when Mr. S. Antony, who resides at Matawhero, returned home on Sunday he found his residence had been broken into and a rifle and cartridges and a supply of canned goods taken. On making investigations Mr. Antony found tracks leading for some distance up the river. On Saturday night another local resident, Mr. Piripi, of Kohunui, had a rifle and an axe removed from his premisesLate on Sunday night two rifle shots were fired over another dwelling in the vicinity. The incident considerably startled and alarmed the occupants. The two youths were seen at midday on Monday by several children. A large number of residents, under the direction of Constable Sleeth, of Martinborough, are scouring the district with the object of apprehending the culprits. The younger of tlie two youths alleged to be concerned is a European His companion is a Maori. Both boys are out on license. Up to a late hour last night no further trace of the missing hoys had been found.
