HAWERA SWIMMERS
BANNER CONTEST RESUMED.
‘DIEHARD3” 13 POINT MARGIN
The banner competitions of the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club were resumed at the baths last evening, when, despite the chilly conditions and the absence of a number of club members on holiday, good fields contested the various events. The evening results gave a points margin of four to. the vice-captain’s team (“Diehards”) over the captain’s team (“the Frothblowers”), but the totaL of the series gives the former an advantage of 13 points, the tallies being: Vice-captain’s team, 244$ points.
Captain’s team, 23i£ points. Mr. D. C. Ryan officiated as starter and shared the handicapping duties with Mr. A- G. Walker, while Messrs W. A. Spragg, H. Wiggins, and C. Dowdle acted as judges. It was announced ‘during the evening that the next gathering would be on Friday evening. Results were as follow:
Men’s 50 yards handicap.—First heat: D. Speedy (3sec.), C., and McKay (2sec.), C., dead heat, 1; A. Ryan (2sec.), V.C., 3. Second heat: C. Robb (2sec-), C., 1; A. Jobson (lsec.), C., 2. Third heat: A. Blair (4sec.), C., 1; G. Sutton (3sec.), C., 2. Final: Jobson 1, McKay 2, Speedy 3. Won by a foot, with a touch between second and third. Robb was fourth.
Ladies’ 25 yards handicap^ —Firstheat: Miss J. Hunter (3sec.), V.C., 1; Mrs. Rota (scr-), C., 2; Miss V. Ryan (lsee.), V.C., 3. Second lieat: Misses J. Murray (3sec.), C., 1; P. Murray (3sec.), V.C., 2; J. McGlaslian (2sec.), V.C.. 3. Final: Misses P- Murray 1, j. Murray 2, J. Hunter 3. Won by a. yard, with a. loot between second and third. Mrs. Rota was a close fourth. Men’s 100 yards handicap. —A. Dowdle (lsec.), V.C., 1; A. Jobson (3sec.), C., 2; A- Spragg (scr.), V.C., 3. Won by four yards, with a yard between second and third. A. Ryan (scr.) was close up fourth. Ladies’ 50 yards handicap.—Misses P. Murray (Bseo.), V.C., 1; J. Murray (ssec.), C., 2; J. Oliver (ssec.), V.C-, 3. Won by three yards, with two yards between second and third. Miss S. Seaver (4sec.) was a close fourth. Ladies’ dive. —Misses J. Hunter, 31 I points, V.C., 1; P.
