HAWERA SALVATION ARMY
COMMANDANT ADAMS FAREWELLED. There was a fairly representative gathering at the Salvation Army citadel last evening to bid farewell to Commandant H.. M. Adams, Mrs. Adams and family on the eve of their departure to a new sphere of activities at Nelson, for which centre they, leave Hawera by to-morrow morning's mail train.
General regret at his departure and due appreciation of his earnest -endeavours m the cause of Christianity during his term of office in Hawera was voiced by leading members of the local corps, -particularly by SergeantMajor Trevor Dowdle, who also invited those present to attend at the citadel on Thursday evening to extend a welcome to Commandant Adams’ successor, Field-Major Wyatt, of Inglewood. Other speakers were Treasurer BroH. Stebbing, Y.P.S.M. Mrs. Johns, Bandmaster Smith and Mrs. T. Dowdle (on behalf of the Home League, of which body she is secretary). Band-secretary J. Dowdle made a presentation to Master Ivan Adams. The Rev. R. L. Fursdon, representing the Minister’s Association, spoke in appreciative terms of Commandant Adams’ administration in Hawera during the past twelve months, and wished him a continuance of his happy relations with the members of the Salvation Army in liis new location. Commandant Adams and Mrs. Adams eloquently and feelingly acknowledged the complimentary references to thenlabours and earnestly requested an equal measure of support to their successors.
Vocal and instrumental items to the evening’s entertainment were contributed by Miss Davis (Wanganui), BroZinsli and Bruce Adams, the function concluding with an ice-cream supper served by lady members of the corps.
