PHENOMENAL CRICKET SCORE

YOUNG AUSTRALIAN’S ,FEAT

MAKES 452 NOT OUT.

A score of 452 undefeated by Don Bradman, the, young New South Wales cricketer, was the feature of the Sheffield Shield! match. Queensland v. New South Wales, which was continued today. New South Wales, having made 235 in the first innings, in the second innings has eight wickets dbwn for 761 runs, Bradman, not out 452. McCabe 60, Allsopp 66. Hurwiood took six wickets for 170 runs, and Thompson one for 143.

Queensland,, with a score of 227 in the first innings, in the second innings have lost- seven wickets for 72 runs (Gough 20, O’Connor 17). Bradman’s .achievement, breaking the world’s record for the highest score in a first-class match, was given head lines in the Australian newspapers. The crowd on the ground gave him a wonderful ovation, lasting many minutes. Good judges freely concede that his brilliance and resourcefulness stamp him as the champion batsman, of the day. Even when facing the crack bowler Hurwood he declined to let up. The -previous holdier of the world s record was Ponsford, who scored 437 against Queensland in December, 1927-28. Bradman’s innings is much better than Ponsford’s-, as Bradman’s 452 not out were made in 406 minutes, compared with Ponsford’s 437 in 621 minutes. Bradman is the only batsman who has twice exceeded! 300 runs on the Sydney ground. - Bradman compiled some, of Ins runs to-day in a hurricane fashion, while the partnership between himself and McCa.be. who also biarted! stylishly, is I described as the most entertaining witnessed here for many years. Both are mere youths in their twenties. Congratulatory telegrams for Bradman reached! the/ cricket ground from all over Australia.
