The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the llawera branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was this afternoon postponed until Thursday next, at 1.30 p.m., out of respect to relatives of recently-deceased prominent members of the union. Before dispersal the president (Mrs W. E. Garter) mentioned that the demand for housekeepers exceeded the supply. During the past.month four out of five requests for housekeepers had been complied with and four eligibles had joined up. This is an activity of the Women’s Division that is proving, of real assistance to country dwellers. On the main "beach at Hellfire Bay, Stewart Island, recently two travellers observed a steamer’s huge steel derrick which had drifted ashore, remarks the “Southland News” correspondent. The derrick arm measured over 40 feet, and apparently is hollow, asr otherwise it would not have floated. Glancing at the massive length of metal, one marvels how the small quantity of air that is contained within could provide sufficient "buoyancy to hold up such a massive weight. The barnacles attached to the derrick show that it had travelled for a long period since parting from a presumed wreck.
