ST. TRAGEDY
LIGHT ON MYSTERY. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 4The detective office has received ail anonymous letter from a man who says lie saw a woman, presumably Mrs. Biggs, on the night of November 18, kneeling in prayer at the end of the St. Kilda pier. The writer said he tried to light his pipe but the wind was too strong. He sat on a seat and watched the woman. Hei then left, forgetting the pipe. On returning for it lie discovered the woman had gone. He concluded that the only place where she could have disappeared was into the sea. He went home and told his wife but made no complaint to the police. He now had every reason to believe she was Mrs. Higgs, whose body was discovered in the hay and whose husbands returned from Auckland to Melbourne yesterday in order to be present at the inquest.. The anonymous writer adds: “l cannot possibly be identified with the ease, hence my anonymity.” Detectives are of the opinion that the writer is sincere and truthful and regret that so important a witness is not available for the inquest.
