WORK ON HOSPITAL BOARD. WOMEN AS MEMBERS. The question of women being elected to hospital board was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. The subject arose as the result of the notification of the vacancy on the Hawera board created by tbe death of Sir. G. W. Tayler, who formerly represented Eltham borough. As the outcome, of a discussion it was resolved to suggest to that borough council that Mrs. Carter be appointed to the board to fill the vacancy. Speaking on the subject, Mrs. D. M. Cameron (Okaiawa) said that she understood hospital matrons (and departmental officers considered that women members were very desirable. She instanced the work of (Mrs. McCombs in Christchurch who, she said, was considered a most valued member of the board at Christchurch and whose in fluence had been responsible for the solution of many difficulties.
