RAID ON BANK.

ASSISTANTS FIRED AT

THREE MEN ARRESTED LATER

(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.)

SYDNEY, Sept. 5

Three masked men daringly held up the manager and assistant of the Woolahra branch of the Government Savings Bank this afternoon. The assistant, Thomas Holdsgrove, dived for a revolver under the counter and was shot in the leg. The men then fired at the manager, N. Everitt, a bullet grazing his arm. Apparently nonplussed by the unexpected resistance of the bank staff, the men raced away without attempting to raid the bank’s funds and escaped in a motor-car, the engine of which was running in front of the bank.

The police have arrested three men on charges of robbery under arms and shooting with intent to murder.
