BATTLE WITH ARABS

BRITISH TROOPS ENGAGED. A RAID INTERCEPTED. FRENCH COMMENT ON POSITION. (Australian Press Association —United Service.) LONDON, Sept. 4. British troops were in action at the foot of Mt. Tabor, where 600 Bedouins were reported at dusk on Tuesday to be advancing upon the villages at the foot of the mountain, stealing cattle and sheep, states the Jerusalem correspondent of the "Daily Express. ’ ’ British armoured cars and a detachment of Green Howards were sent to intercept the Arabs and a fierce battle is raging. This is far the most serious in which the British forces have been vet engaged. Latest news is that a mounted column of Arab raiders which attacked the Jewish village of Mesgha and was making off with a great herd of cattle ha<s been hemmed in on the southern shore of the Sea of 'Gallilee, striving to retire to the Arab town of Boisan. Lighting continues. The French newspaper, "Le Matin,” says while Britain is congratulating itself that Mr Snowden has re-establish-ed its prestige at The Hague its prestige is gravely compromised in Palestine, where Britain wishes to add another milestone to the road to India and to conciliate the international power of the Jews. Britain, however, is neglecting another force, the Arabs, who do not possess banks, but have distant ramifications. Britain is laying odds on the Jews, but at present is losing its money.
