Warm spring weather, with an absence of wind, and the turf in perfect order, wore art ideal combination of s ire umsta rices which favoured the commencement of the twelfth tot-alisator meeting of the Taranaki Hunt Club today. Ban Fera. moved off first, but Quit Hire took up the .running at the end uf a couple or furlongs and led San F eta, Just John and Democratic past the stands. Just John was close up. Just John fell when pulling up, but was not distressed. Time, 2.58 2-5. Three spills occurred during the Malden Hunters’ Steeplechase, Michael Shimosc crashing when taking the stand double the first time, bringing Te Arakina down. During the next circuit Charmaine fell at the same obstacle. H. Burt, the rider of To Arakura, was sent to the hospital suffering from concussion. The other two riders escaped serious injury.

Black Odin was first away from Joke Form, Espion, Ross- Ferry- and Annoyer, A dash to the High School bend sent Espion up to head Black Odin, Joke Form, Annoyer, Ross Ferry, Pua-wkato, Gold Like in close formation. Espion. Black Odin, Joke Form swept round the’ home, .turn practically- together, with the favourite Annoyer vainly trying to get through, and Ross Ferry- and Gold Like coming on the outside. In the run to the judge’s box. Black Odin finished beat to beat Gold Like by- a. length, with Ross Ferry -at Gold Like’s girth and Annoyer very- close fourth. The public made Rayonnant a. soil-id favourite, with Haeremai carrying £2OO less. The stand double on tire first circuit accounted for Te Arakura, which crashed and brought Michael Shimose down also, leaving Nimblefoot leading Karangawai, Rayonnant, Qh.armaine, with a gap to Haeremai. -The last named improved down the-''back and reaching the top was lying third to the same two leaders. Negotiating the stand doable a second time,-.Rayonnant almost came to grief, making a remarkable recovery, but Charmaine was not so lucky and fell. Racing into the hack again Rayonnant was piloting Karangawai, bait the former moved up at the three furlongs peg to head Ria.yonnant, with Omeo spurting into third berth. Omeo led «nto the straight and improved in the run home to beat Ivarangawai by four lengths, with Haeremai eight lengths away third. Rayonnant was a good fourth.
