MANY RUMOURS ABROAD

CANBERRA, Aug. 30. Much speculation prevails as to the political future and there are many rumours abroad that the reconstruction of the Ministry is imminent, on© 'suggestion being that the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon S. M. Bruce, will resign immediately and hand over the reins to the Hon. J. G. Latham. AttorneyGeneral. Another is that the Arbitration Bill wi'll be postponed a fortnight to allow further consideration of it by Ministerialists. All these rumours have boon denied after party meetings which have been held. Jt is understood that Mr Bruo© i.n--forined followers that the recent exclusion of Messrs Hughes and Mann from party meetings, did not mean their expulsion from the party, but simply that the Prime Minister fe'it, in view cf those, members’ adverse criticisms and votes, it was unwise to nil low them in the meantime to be in the confidence of the Marty to which they had shown hostility.

One member later ,said he bald no hesitation in staying that Mr Bruce stood higher than ever in the Nationalists’ opinion, whoh is unlkely to view favourably his relinquishment of leadership. It is understood that certain of the alterations projected will include' a concession to relieve country picture theatres. This ,it is thought, will be done by exempting a certain portion of the gross receipts from taxation.
