Bartons' orchestra, of live instruments' has been engaged, and the committee is offering a total of twenty-six prizes .including two prizes for the best fancy costumes. The, floor will he cleared for acl'ult dancing as from 10 o’clock, and everything points to a splendid evening's entertainment. The Marlborough Aero Club’s second batch of trainee pilots was tested at Blenheim yesterday by Major Isitt. Director of Air Services, lor A class tickets. Eight candidates took the air. All were Buceessl'ul. They are Miss P Bennett (second clubtrained lady pilot in the Dominion), Messrs. W. Barry. C. A. MacDonald, PE Y. Penny, E. S. Holdaway, D. A. G. Gordon, R. H. Jackson and J. Vavasour.
Attention to big differences existing between the capitation allowance's to primary and secondary schools respectively was drawn by Dr. W. M. Thomson, chairman of the Hawera Main School Committee, at- the- monthly meeting of the committee last evening, and on the motion of Mr M. R. Jones, seconded by Mr M. A. Rowlands, the following resolution was adopted: “This committee draws the attention of the Education _ Department to the gross anomalies in capitation existing between primary, secondary and technical schools, and: urges the department to institute more eouitabie treatment of primary schools.”
