NO LICENSING BILL

DURING THIS SESSION. PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT. TO ALLIANCE DEPUTATION. (By Telegraph—Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 29. In view of the present constitution of the House of Representatives, there wil’i be no Licensing Bill this session, or probably this Parliament, said the Prime Minister, in replying to a. deputation from the New Zealand Alliance to-day. Sir Joseph Ward said that he would not be prepared to foster licensing legislation, because his summing up showed that the feeling of the House was against it. The Alliance would have to exercise more influence on the vote of the people at the next general election to . get them more into line with the Alliances views. He was certain the present House was not in line with tlie Alliances views.

“It is stronger than in the last Par.filament,” said Mr R. T. Edmond, secretary of the Alliance’. . The Prime Minister: It may be strong, but it is not strong enough. Mr Edmond: It would be as?weld to

test it. The Prime Minister: You would not suv that, if vou were in my position.
