TE KUITI, Aug. 2

A disastrous fire occurred in King Street just after midnight, when a large wooden store owned by Barraud and Abraham was completely destroyed, with all the contents. In front was an iron-constructed building used by Barraud and Abraham as offices, and Ronald Cook and Co. as grocery shop. This was badly gutted and the stock was destroyed by smoke and ivater. Part of the wooden building at the back ivas used by Cool, and Co. as a bulk store, and part by Barraud and Abraham. The latter’s stock ivas valued at about £SOO and Cook’s stock was valued at a much larger sum. The insurances on the stock are not available. The buildings ivere insured for £2OOO. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is supposed to have started in packing cases outside the building.
