At the Police Court, George ,Carney, aged 34, a labourer, was charged that on August 22 last he murdered Thomas Levy, a middle-aged man, a .labourer employed by the I'letcher Construction company. The charge arose out of an affray in a Nelson Street ’house. Wnen lie! was removed from the house by an anumlance Levy was bleeding from a wound in the groin, and lie died Before his arrival at hospital. There was a wound in the right side and a tourniquet had been applied. Witness heard Levy cry out, “Dave, .I'm stabbed.” Witness said that lie could not say whether it was Gaffney who had co-mo bade. He did not know the other man at the door.

Mr Dickson (counsel for the accused) : “I’ll have that taken down, please. ’' Air Meredith, for the Crown : How much liquor have you had this morning?. Witness: Oh! A couple of pints.

Air Outten, S.M., ordered the accused to leave the witness box, saying that somebody could keep am eye on him. Witness (cheerfully) : Right oh! Lavinia Foster, a single woman, agsd 30. said that she and ai friend, Betty Rusluworth, were in the cottage on the night in question. Both said they could not identify the man who c-ame to the door.;
