In tiie English County cricket competitions Yorkshire made 304 runs in the first innings (Qklroyd 140), Gregory took five wickets for 64 rims; in the second innings they made 315 runs for one wicket (Holmes 142, Sutcliffe 123 not out). Surrey in the first innings made 408 (Sandbam 187, Bailing 85). Surrey won on the first innings. Gloucester made 173 in the first innings. Meyer took five wickets for 66 runs; in the second innings they made 200. Galthorpe took four wickets for 39 runs.. Warwick in the first innings made 102, Barnett took four wickets for 65 runs and Goddard four for 29; in the second innings they made 165 (Wyatt 58). Gloucester won by 116 runs. Hampshire made 69 runs in the first innings, Hopwoqd took six wickets-for 34 runs; in the second innings, they made 168 runs (Mead not out 83), R. Tyldesley took six -wickets for 32 runs.
