DISASTROUS FIRE.
GRAIN STORE DESTROYED. DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £130,000. ijtfy Teiegnipti — Press Association.) BLENHEIM, August, 16. A disastrous fire involving a total loss of about £13,000, broke out at A. M. Cony and Company’s store, Springcreek, las tnight. The building and fittings were valued at £3OOO and the stocks were, worth about £lO,000. No fire-fighting facilities were available and it was impossible to attempt salvage, the heat being so great tit the height of the blaze presented an aw-inspiring spectacle. The building was leased by Corry and Company from Robertson and Mills and used principally as a grain store. It was insured for £IBOO in the Northern office, there was also £2OO in the same office on the seed cleaning plant. The store contained 8000 sacks of chaff, 3500 to 4000 sacks of hurley and about 1500 sacks of seed peas as well as general merchandise. The insurance, total £7,500 in the Commercial Union.
