COMMITTEES CONFER. le quarterly meeting of the South 1 aranaki School Committees’ Associat'd 11 was held at. -Manaia 'raist night, Mr I. Cocker (Rawhitiroa) presiding. Also present wetre Messrs A. Gamlin, I. A. Bridge, G. H. Edwards, C. Scto (Manaia), S. H. Le Fleming, A. Eaurie (Otukelio), D. M. Ross (Oeo), A. A. Stuart (Eltkam). W. T. Seed. A. J. Prestidge, B. Cole (Matapu), Dr. W. M. Thomson (Hawero), and A. P.. Kemp (Elthanii), secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Ricketts (Eltbam) mid A. Spratt (Normanby). The secretary reported that tbe Association’s finances were .at present £8 12s 10s in credit, which the chairman described as being very satisfactory.. Speaking in regard to the Rawhitiroa School, 'the chairman said that nothing definite, had vet been decided. The departments architect had inspected the present structure, but his report had not yet come to hand, hut in conversation with the headmaster he had expressed the opinion that the school could be remodelled. The house had been condemned. Tlie remarks of the Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) in regard to the attaching of secondary department's *to consolidated country schools were referred to by the chairman, who said that the proposal would be a step in tbe light direction, and lie sincerely hoped it- would come into operation and thereby make possible secondary education for children who would otherwise have to go without. The Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) advised that a; copy of the new syllabus would be forwarded to any school on application.
