A MAORI’S OFFENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Aug. 14. One year’s imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by Mr P. H. Harper, S.M., to-day on a Maori named Rawhiri Wharehenga, 24 years of age, who pleaded guilty to' 19 charges of stealing wool, horsehair and skins in the Ruatoria district, the property of Sam Ngarimu, of a total value' of £BG lbs, the charges extending over-several months. The accused pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Evidence was given that he visited Ngariinu’s wool shed at night' from March to July last, and took wool, etc., away and sold it. The total quantity of wool stolen was about 30881b.' The buyer at length became suspicious, and communicated with tbe police.
