The “Herald’s” political correspondent undestands that Britain’s Labour Government is ready to permit any Domiiuiou to abolish, the right of appeal to the Privy Council if it m desires. This intimation is given fohowng upon the Irish Free State’s request to forego the Privy Council as the highest legal tribunal in the Empire. It is lilrely that this momentous amendment to the constitution will occur at no distant date. It is learned that the Government feels that ail the Dominions nr© thoroughly competent to establish the highest- courts of appeal within their own territory under their own auspices. It will he necessary to- introduce legislation in the . British Parliament to amend the constitution before tho change is effected. It should be understood that the Dominions will tin no way he bound 1 , to forego-the Privy Council, which will continue to exist unchanged for any Dominton desiring to maintain the right of appeal thereto.
