DENTAL CLINICS.
NINETY IN DOMINION. LAST YEAR’S WORK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) LEVIN, Aug. 15. The State dental clinic at Levin was officially opened yesterday by the Minister of Public Health (the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy), who in the course of his remarks said that there were 90 clinics operating, with 55 sub-' bases, 676 schools and 53,500 children 1 being under treatment. Seventeen new clinics had been established this year. The work accomplished last year included 146,354 fillings, 76,555 extractions, and 99,701 other operations.
Alention was made by other speakers of the fact that Levin had pioneered the way in the Dominion by establishing a school dental system in 1919, two years lrefore the State clinics were operating. This was the scheme devised by Mr D. S. Mackenzie. a local dentist, under which lie and other practitioners attended to children for a nominal fee of £1 per annum. Tin’s- service- is still operating in the district.
