GIANT BRITISH LINER.
PLANS SCRAPPED. LARGER. KEEL TO BE LAID. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.; —United Service;. . . LONDON, Aug. 14. The AVhite Star .line is definitely taking up the challenge of the new German liner Bremen, which recently created a new Atlantic record. The correspondent of the “Daily News” at Belfast says that as a direct result of the Bremen’s success the White Star Company has scrapped the 1000 feet keel of the Oceanic which Princess Mary laid at Harlaiid and Wolff’s shipyard last October as the foundation of the world’s largest liner Soon after the keel was laic! work on it was suspended until the Bremen’s capabilities could bo assesssd. Pre-j parations are already under way for the laying of a new and larger keel. The Oceanic’is original plans, which have now been scrapped, were, for PXK) feet length, with a gross tonnage or 60,000 and an estimated cost of £6,000,000.
