Air J. W. Snowden has been appointed one of the AVaimato AVest County Council’s representatives on the South Taranaki Power Board, filling the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr J. F. Stevenson.

Air J. Everett, of the. Central Hotel, Bawera, who underwent an operation at a private hospital in Hawera on Aloud ay, is reported to be making favourable progress, though it is considered he will not be able to leave the hospital for some weeks. Cabinet has approved of the appointment. of Air AI. Dennchy to the position of Assistant-General Manager of .the New Zealand Railways in succession to Air J. S. Hunter, who was appointed Commissioner of Transport some time ago, states a AVellington Press Association message. Old residents of Hawera will learn with regret of the death at Richmond (Nelson) of Mr A. J. Howard, who was for many years a. inspected resident of Hawera. When he first came to the district he was fanning ■in Tarata, and then he settled in Hawera, where he lived until about 12 years ago. He had* reached the age of 84 years.

A iraternal spirit was shown between the Feilding and Hawera high schools when a presentation was made by the boys of the former’s cricket team to H. Barker, of Hawera, of a silver shield, suitably inscribed, as a memento of the fine score of 96 he made last year in the annual cricket match. The presentation followed the presentation of the cricket ball, suitably mounted, with which one of the Feilding team did such destructive work, getting four wickets with four consecutive balls. The presentation was appropriately acknowledged by Air. Barker.
