FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL

The basketball am! football tournament held on Saturday at the Pa to a Domain was most successful. Pupils and teachers gathered and the primary rounds of both games were- played There were lew schools in the district that were not represented. In the junior section there were eight competing teams, the results bring: Patea, A 23 beat Waverley B 0; Waverley A 9 beat Alton B 0; Hurleyville S beat Kakaramea (); Patea B 6 beat Alton A 0. In the semi-finals: Patea A 3 beat Waverley A 0; Patea B 3 beat Hurleyville 0. In the final between the two Patea teams, Patea B heat Patea A, 3 to nil, somewhat contrary to expectations

Tho basketball vouikls were more interesting, the match between Waver ley and AYJienuakura in the semi-final proving, very exciting. Details are as follow: Patea Convent I(5 beat Waverley B 0: Alton won by default from Patea B; Whenuakura 8 beat Patea A 0; Waverley A 8 beat Patea B 4; Kakaramea a bye.

In the second round Waverley A. 4 beat Kakaramea 2. In the semi-finals, Alton 1(5 beat Patea Convent 2: Waverley 4 beat Whenuakura 0.

In the , final game, after a good sporty contest, Waverley beat Alton. 6 to 2. TJius Waverley’ won the basketball cup’ from last year's holders. Patea, and the senior football cup from Patea. who held, it last year.
