AIRSHIPS FOR PACIFIC.
CALIFORNIA TO HONOLULU. •S-ExtYiCE BEING PLANNED. NEW YORK, July 3. The shortening of the time taken to cover the distance between Australia and the United States is appreciably nearer, being an aecomp’islied fact, as the result of negotiations between very important aircraft and shipping interests. Thy plans concern a dirigible service between Oadfomia and Honolulu, cutting off four days from the trip. The Goodyear Zeppelin Company, which will b’::i"d the dirigibles, is negotiating with the Duller and other .steamship lines, ’coking re:- co-operation between aircraft and ships.
As; scon as negotiations have been eompteted. the Goodyear Companv will begin the construction of one dirigible o: 6.500.000 cubic feet capacity, with ei.-l if engines and a crew of 50, capable of flying for 7.0 hours. The dirigib’e could make two trips to Honolulu n week. Later, if it is successful, other dirigibles could he added, and the s?ervre extended to the Orient.
