| HAWERA ORGANISATION. i J NORTH TARANAKI VISITORS. j The IlaAvera branch committee of tlie Red Cross Society met at the Red Cross rooms last evening. There were present Sister A. C. Ingles, Mts E. ;S. Baker, Misses D. Peterson, and H. S. Squire, and Messrs W. G. Simpson ! (chairman), F. Gillanders, E. K. 'Cam--01011, W. H. James, J. Cahill and Rev. E. S. Emmitt. An apology for absence Avas received from the secretary, Mrs A. E. Stevens. The president of the North Taranaki Council (Mrs H. C. Morgan), the northern district Red Cross nurse (Sister M. Corkill), and the -district health officer (Dr. R. J. R. Mccredy) were present ! at the invitation of the committee and took part in a round table discussion concerning the actiA’ities of the society. The nurses acted in a dual capacity, carrying out school work under the direction of the Health Department and conducting first aid and hygiene instruction classes under the aegis of the Red Cross Society. In the latter sphere they tvere gradually training numbers who in time of epedenii'C or serious affliction would form flu 1 nucleus of a strong organisation to combat the trouble. Already in Now Plymouth an efficient band of such voluntary workers had been tdallied. Votes of thanks Averc accorded both speakers in 'appreciation of the information made available.

The treasurer, Miss Peterson, reported that 85 members of the society had ' been enrolled. Fifty of those had joined during the drive conducted at the Winter 'Show. Assistance at the Winter Show stall had been given by Sister Ingles, Mrs Stevens, Mrs Baker, Mrs King and Misses Hooper, 11. Squire D. Sheat, A. McKay, T. Tait, B. Ryan, and D. Peterson. A vote of thanks was accorded, the various workers. It was also reported that the sum of £5 was raised at a stall conducted on behalf of the Junior Red 'Cross. That had been allocated to relief work.

Sister Ingles reported that the first home nursing examination rook place at Hawera on‘July 12 at the Ha w era School and was conducted bv Dr. R. G. B. 'Sinclair, assisted by Mrs Wood (nee Sister 0. H. Ingles). Mrs B. C. Bennett acted as supervisor. All of the nine candidates were successful. They were Mesdamcs King, Fisk, ITemsley, and the Misses D. Hooper, M. Murray. P. Pierce, Adams, G. Death and Hunt.
