NO EFFIGY BURNT. OR ANY BALLOT PAPERS. OFFICIAL POLICE STATEMENT. (United Press Association —By Kleotrin Tel-graph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association. ) SYDNEY, March 28. The Commissioner of Police officially states that no ballot papers or effigy of Judge Lukin were burned last night in connection with the timber workers’ procession, but some ruffians burned some old newspapers in sacks. Mr. Bruxner, relieving Chief Secretary, has accepted this explanation. He declares that Mr. Jock Garden’s assurance that the men would not burn ballot papers or the effigy was faithfully kept. . All the men arrested last nighty have been remanded till after the Easter holidays on bail. A Melbourne message says the strike lias been declared off at several timber mills and work was resumed.
