ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER

Frederick Richardson, aged 56, a market gardener, was charged to-day with the attempted murder of John Armstrong, aged 42, at Papanui on March 8. He pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Bail was not allowed. Armstrong has completely recovered. Armstrong, in giving evidence, said that after an argument about who find left a certain gate open, the accused said witness was a liar and witness replied that thc accused was the same. “Tlie accused told me to got off the place or ho Avould shift me,’’ continued witness. “As I left and walked down thc lane, holding the hand of Air Bartlett’s little girl, I was going -towards Bartlett’s gate, when turning round I saw the accused with a gun up to his shoulder. He tired and I got it in thc neck and shoulders.” A detective said that when he arrested the accused the latter stated: “Yes. I shot him; I did not know that was his name. How is he? Where did I got him?” Richardson denied that he attempted to commit murder.
