There are prospects of a. settlement of the (timber workers’ strike. A conference. has been arranged between the Trades Union and the Council of Action and a' section of the master . builders, who believe they have a basis of negotiation which they will explore, but the details of which are a secret. ALLEGED INTIMIDATION AT SECRET BALLOT. Received 10 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, March 21. Information concerning the discovery of attempts (to interfere with the secret ballot on tlie timber -workers’ strike.by intimidation of voters has been submitted to the Attorney-General, the Hon. J. G. Latham. It is said that in order to obtain a “no” majority unionists were required to attend with their ballot papers and vote in the presence of a union official.
