NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW.

PEOPLE’S DAY. A GREAT CROWD PRESENT. At the Taranaki Agricultural Society’s show' at New Plymouth yesterday (People’s Day) there was a great crowd present from all parts of the province. The grand parade of stock was a fine spectacle, well organised and controlled.

The leaping competitions were keenly contested. The principal event, the hunters’ championship, was won by Mr G. D. Smith’s Monarch, his other horse. Silver King, being second, and Mr S. Symes’s Osprey third. Mr Smith wins outright the HawkinsSmith Clip. He has had three firsts and three seconds in various years.

Steer riding provided much excitement, Mr Burke, of Kapuni, being first and Mr J. H. Clement, of Eltham, first- in buck-jumping competition. Many tributes were paid to the president (Mr H. C. Sampson), the committee, and the secretary (Mr W. P. Okey) for good organising work, and the ladies efficiently managed the luncheon and afternoon tea hall.
