At the meeting of the Waverley- \\ aitotara Mieep Dog Haul Ciuo recently held in the Waverley Town Board room tlie following members were present: Messrs 0. Amen (chairman), \\ . H vv attains, riowaru, A. Masters, E. Amen, u. opratt, Andrew Eimslie, J. E. Palmer, E. Walker, E. Benson, JJ. Walker, M. Scott, J. J. Johnston, D. Earsen, u. Jtlarper, I. McWilliams, and W. H. James. Tlie election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. J. E. .rainier (reelected); president, Mr. C. Aiken (,reelected); vice-presidents, eighteen memuers elected Irom those present; committee, thirty members elected from the membersnip; emergency committee, Messrs G. Aiken, M. Scott, Jas. ilourke, and D. Howard; secretary, Mr. W. H. James; treasurer, Mr. J. J. Joliiiston; auditor, Mr. J. C. Gray. It was decided to hold a dance in the Waverley town liall on April 10. Messrs Jas. Bourke and G. Webster were deputed to canvass for trophies for the lortlicoming trials. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Waverley School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, the following members being in attendance: Messrs G. Spratt (chairman), (J. H. iSouthcomb, C. li. Christensen, 6. Aiken, W. P. Wallace, W. Wicks, J. Currie (secretary), and Browning (schoolmaster.
Accounts were passed for payment totalling £9 9s 2d. The Headmaster’s report was presented as follows: The average attendance at the school for February was 187.4 out of a total of 201. Two inspectors visited the school during tlie month and spoke in glowing terms or the class of work achieved by the pupils. The annual picnic trip to New Plymouth was a pronounced success, and thanks were due to the committee and helpers in making tlie day so enjoyable. A request should be made by the committee to the board for three clocks, and also (tables, chairs and mats for the infant classes. Three waste-paper baskets were also required. The report was adopted. Correspondence had' been received from the officer in charge of the Salvation Army, Patea, applying for a permit to hold an occasional rally at the school after hours, also from the local Presbyterian church, requesting the use of tlie school for accommodation during Easter for a Bible Class camp.—lt was decided that neither of these requests could be granted. Tlie grounds committee reported that improvements to the children’s drinking water supply had been carried out during the month and were now quite satisfactory
