Air Edwin Dixon, J.P., of Hawera, has been appointed a justice of the peace* to exercise judisdiction in the Children’s Court, states our Wellington correspondent. The appointment of Mr Du ism ■ Sliuin as Chinese Consul at Wellington was gazetted last night, states a Press Association message. r\Xr. and Airs. J. Bartlett and family, ol iUeloourne, wnp are visiting Taranaki, are spending a few days in Hawera, being guests at the "White Hart Hotel. i'll'. W. Best, of Christchurch is a visitor to Hawera, and is a guest at tne. Central Hotel. Messrs. Ba.Uantyne, Shaw and Andrews, or New Plymouth, are spending a lew days m Hawera and a.re staying at the Central Hotel. Aliss Alarie Farquliar, of the Awatuna district, has gained distinction in her nursing career in the Wellington Public Hospital. In the recent final state nursing examination she shared with, a nurse on file staff of the Napier Hospital the honour of gaining the highest marks in the Dominion. She was awarded a gold medal for her achievement. Aliss S. E. Farquhar, of the Friendly societies’ Dispensary at Hawera, is a sister.
During the course of his speech of welcome to Auckland bowlers at the social- last- evening, Air. James Foy, president of the centre paid a well deserved tribute to the work of Air. John Ren wick, the capable secretary of the Hawera Club who had so well organised the details of the visit of the Auckland represent a five s and said that his good work was largely responsible for the success of the various bowling functions held by the Hawera Club.
