AUROA DISTRICT SHOW.

DAIRY CATTLE COMPETITION. THE LIST OF AWARDS. There was a fine list of dairy animals exhibited at Auioa at the show of dairy cattle held yesterday under the auspices of the Auroa branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Entries were very good and in all respects it uvas considered the best display given at Auroa, There was a large audience, the visitors including- a contingent from Hawera.

The judging was done by Mr W. R. Butler (Hawera) in the dairy section, and by Mr E. A. Washer (Okaiawa)' in the utility horses. A crodial welcome was given at the opening of the show bj l - the president (Mr F. Aroa) to Mr (Butler and later to Mr Washer. Mi; Aroa remarked that Mr Butler judged at the first 'Auroa show.

The business of the show then began and was continued with the greatest expedition all. day. The arrangements made by the committee under the direction of the honorary secretary (Mr E. L. Bigham) made for success and were much appreciated. An afternoon tea and luncheon marque was run by tho ladies and gave complete satisfaction. There was keen competition in every class/ especially in the IS months’ heifers and heifer calves. Tlie winner in the aged bull class was Mr W. Hudson’s'Ayrshire bull, “Fancy 'Star of Edendale,” and in tho bull calves Mr A. King’s calf by Woodland’s King John —Meadowvale Desire. Mr J. Seheuber secured Mr W. Hudson’s cup and Mr ,R. 'Dunn’s geld medal for the best dairy cow. Mr H. Buxton won the Lissaman cup for best 18 months’ dairy• heifer. The awards were as below: — Aged bull. —W. Hudson 1, A. Dunn 2, W. F. Lyndon 3. In this class the judge said the winning animal was a fine type of a dairy sire, with good middle piece. The second was a little better behind the shoulder, while the third was a younger animal, which he was convinced would develop into a fine bull. 3.8 .months’ bull. —J. C. Duff 1, E. L. IBigliam 2, 'H. Buxton .3 The judge said he had much difficulty in making his awards, 'the quality of all placed animals being very good. Bull calf. —A. King 1, J. Deegan 2, J. Seheuber 3. The first, said the judge, had a fine strong head and was generally good. Heifer calf.—C. Lyndon 1, J. 'Seheuber 2, Bertha Bigham 3. The winning entry had well sprung ribs with good head, except that the eyes were not very prominent; the second had also a good head and the third was faulty in that it had high hindquarters. 18 months’ heifers.—H. Buxton 1, H. Hartley 2, A. King '3. There were fourteen entered and the judge, in giv-; ing his opinion that the class would hav© done credit to any show ring, said that the winner had good prominent head and was wide in pin bones. The second had sprung ribs and was wide in girth. 'Children’s led calf. —Amy Bigham 1, Leslie King 2, Myra Kirk 3. 'Children’s dairy calf.—'Amy Bigham 1. Walter Kirk 2, Leslie King 3. Dairy cow. — J. 'Seheuber 1, W. Hudson 2, W. Hudson 3, W. Hudson 4. The judge was very favourably impressed and said the class was an exceedingly good one. Heifer in milk.—iW. Lyndon il, H. Buxton 2, Gladys ißigham 3. Tlie winner’s entry had good ribs and foreudder, wid© pin bones, and was easily selected as first. HORSE EVENTS.

At the conclusion of the judging tho I president thanked the judges for their valuable help and the public far their attendance., He said the show was a means of helping farmers to breed better stock and by seeing what other farmers had to show. He gave special commendation to the ladies for their work in the refreshment tent and said their help was always appreciated. [Before the gathering dispersed the gold medal donated by Mr Dunn was presented to the winner, Mr J. Seheuber. EVENING (SOCIAL. There was a large attendance in the hall for the annual social and dancing was enjoyed to good music supplied by Mr and Mrs IH. ft. Wood. During tho evening- Mr Aroa presented the silver cup to Mr Seheuber, congratulating him on the success secured by him and expressing the hope that all would try to foster the interests of the shoxv in every possible way. Mr Seheuber responded. THE COMBINED SHOW. The winning animals in the Anroa, Otakeho and Awatuna-Te Kiri shows will meet at Anroa on Saturday and b© judged there. The quality of the exhibits is so good that competition is hound to be strong. Judging will commence at 11 a.m.
