FASHIONS IN HOSIERY.
TENNIS SOOKS FOR STREET [WEAR (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Jan. 30. The fashion of -women wearing woollen socks Wxtlii gaily striped tops over ordinary stockings which began on the lawn tennis courts has now become general every day wear. Their comfort and warmth and the protection they give against holes in silk stockings' are specially appealing in wintry weather with the result that young women’s ankles unprotected therewith are now most exceptional. The latest fashion has created a mild boom in a section, of the hosiery trade at Nottingham. Many firms' are working overtime in order to cope with the demand. Men are earning £7 weekly and girls £3. Whole families in the Nottinghamshire colliery villages are living on their daughter’s earnings in this trade.
