LOCAL AND GENERAL.
Yesterday was reported by business men in Hawera to have been the busiest day for a sale day they have experienced for seine months. It was just after the twentieth and farmers 1 had the results of a good dairy pay-out and were able to spend a considerable sum of money. It is some time since so many cars were seen in Hawera on a. Thursday. At times the .congestion of traffic was, acute and drivers had to go, carefully. Inquiries macTe tills morning at the Eltham private hospital, elicited the fact that Trevor hoy, of Lower Hastings Read, who was seriously injured in a. motor collision on Thursday of last week is now making excellent progress towards recovery. During a thunderstorm at Mokoreta (Southland) yesterday George Mckay, a. spectator at a sports meeting, was struck by lightning and rendered unconscious (reports a Press Association message). Attention was immediately forthcoming, and he. soon recovered. Apart from feeling somewhat stiff, he was none the worse for his experience.
