SALVATION ARMY OFFICERS.

WELCOAIED TO HAWERA.

There was a. fair attendance at the H-aAvexa Salvation Army Citadel last ■evening when. members and their friends assembled to welcome Commandant and Airs H. Adams, who. -have been transferred from' Dannevirke to- take charge l of -the Hawera district. Sergt.-Alajor J. Dowdle presided and, introducing the -guests, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, Mr E. A. Paeey, who, however, pent a message -of welcome- on behalf .of the citizens of Hawera.

■Several speeches of welcome were made during the evening, and conspicuous among the speakers were -the Rev. J. R. Young (Anglican) and the Rev. E. -S. Emmitt (Methodist), -both of whom,' on behalf of their respective churches,' extended the new commandant amid hi® wife and family the heartiest of welcomes- to the district. Other speakers who added their felicitations were Y.P.TS.AI. Trevor D.owdle, treasurer H. St ebbing, and secretary W. Foster.

Commandant Adams- suitable respond- / ed, and expressed the hope that his ; term in the district would be, markedby the progress already made by hif predecessors. _ J The evening was -devoted to music? and elocutionary items, at the concision of which supper was- served by ladies. Those who- contributed item to an interesting programme were Mr* W. Carter, AlLs® A. Brough, Mr L. Towner and Co mm andmant Adams.
