i The weather during the test week, jwitk the exception of a few shower si on (Friday night, has been warm and: sultry and the beach and river have been '.crowded each day, especially on' Sunday. In addition to the residents, a large number of carloads of visitors iwere present from all parts. The life-saving crew gave a demonstration under the supervision of Air Bamford. the instructor, and acquitted themselves very creditably;.

A working bee, consisting of members ot the Beach Improvement Committee, members of the Life-saving Club and others were employed one evening during the week in cutting a fresh track through the lupins to- the swimming pool in the river, and fencing off the old track past the dangerous subsidence' on the cliff facing the' river and erecting danger notices. The action of the improvement committee will 1 no doubt' be appreciated by a,ll visitors to the pool. A meeting of the residents, of Ohawe and Tokaora wa sheld at the residence of Air T. Trask on Thursday evening for the purpose of raising funds for the beach improvements. It was decided to hold a dance and euchre tournament in the Tokaora Hall on Wednesday, January 23. A committee was formed to carry out- all arrangements. Every effort is being made by the committee members to ensure the isocial success of the gathering and the cause being a worthy one should hold a strong appeal for public support. On Sunday morning a bull!, which had evidently strayed from some unknown quarter, was running around the district to the danger of the resident?, especially the children. The ranger was telephoned for and removed the beast to safe quarters. A pleasant function took nlaee' at the residence of Air and Airs W. Syme at Ohawe; a, number of friends mot for | the purpose of celebrating the coming lof age of Aliss Phyllis Syme. Tl-e ATcthodist Church held another sendee at Ohawe Beach oh Sunday evening, the Rev. E. .S. Etnmitt conducting the service. There was a, good attendance, and a special feature of the service wa s the orchestra of four instruments, the music being much appreciated 1m the congregation. There will ho another service on Suidav next, the preacher being Air T. Harrell.
