FUNERAL OF THE LATE AIR T. H. JENKINS, s AN IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY.

The esteem in. .which the latte Mr Thomais H. Jenkins was held in. Central Tairanaki was exemplified in. the large and 'representative concourse of mourners who attended his funeral at Eltba.m yesterday afternoon., Following a service at the Salvation Army Citadel, the long cortege drew onit -from York Street to High Street headed 'by the combined Hawera and Eltbajin Salvation Army bands and the boys of the Salvation Army Home, an institution founded by the late Air Jenkins. The Touto then taken was along High and King Edward Streets and on to the cemetery at Rawhitiroa, the combined bands impressively rendering “The Garland! otf Flowers.”

The casket, borne on an open motor vehicle draped in the Salvation Army colours (red, white and blue), was profusely strewn with beautiful floral tributes.

Three sons of the deceased pioneer, Alessrs Stanley, Samuel and Lestock Jenkins, and a nephew, Mr AY. P. Jenkins, w-ere the pall-bearers. , Impressive services were conducted at the citadel and at the graveside by Colonel Toomer, of the National Salvation Army headquarters ’ staff, Wellington, and Colonel Carmichael, of Palmerston NoTth. The first named officer represented'Commissioner J. Hay (Wellington) . A largely-attended memorial conducted by. visiting -officers, was held ini 'the Salvation Army Citadel last evening.
