GIRL LOSES BOTH FEET.
ACCIDENT WITH HAY-REAPER. Betty Lennard, a girl eight years old, had both her feet cut off at the ankles yesterday afternoon .by a liay mower, which was being AA'orked on the farm of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lennard, at Waihou, near Te Aroha. The child had ridden her pony out to a paddock Avhere harvesting was proceeding. She hitched the pony to a fence, and walked to a spot Avhere the mower was being driven over a rather difficult stretch alongside a ditch. The man in charge of the mower, giving tlie machine all his attention, did not notice the approach of the child. The girl Avas unaware of the danger, and before the driver had realised it the blade had cut through her ankles. The child Avas immediately rushed to a pri-A-ate hospital, where she Avas operated on. It is reported that she is making satisfactory progress.
