TO THE LAST DITCH
GENERAL BOOTH’S DECISION.
ATTEMPT TO DISPOSE HIM. HIGH COUNCIL TO BE FOUGHT. ’nited Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 1.45 p.m., to-day. LONDON. Jan. 11.
General Booth’s sister, Eva, motored the distance to Southwold, over a hundred miles, in little over three hours. When she left the house there were tears in her eyes. Asked whether she had seen her brother, she replied with emotion, pointing to the house, “ask the man in the hall.” The “Daily Herold” understands on good authority that General Booth intends to fight to the last ditch the attempts at his disposition. If. Ihe High Council acts he will take the matter to the courts. This is the gist of the decision that General Booth is determined to convey on Monday. Eva Booth said that she was not seeking power but was working for a more democratic control, of the Army. Over a year ago* slie appealed to lier brother to voluntarily take the step now being enforced by the High Council.
DID NOT SEE HER BROTHER. COMMANDER TOLD TO COMEI ANOTHER, DAY. HOW THE GENERAL RECEIVED THE DEPUTATION. LONDON, Jan. 11. Eva Booth did not see her brother. It was stated in view _of the General’s illness. “It was, thought wiser that the commander should come another day.” Brigadier Smith, who is in charge of General Booth said it was considered inadvisable that Elva should see her brother the same day as the deputation. That is surely enough. To bring such an ultimatum to a man in such a condition scarcely gives him & chance df (recovery. Htowevler, the General took the situation very calmly, prayed for the deputation when it arrived and listened carefully. He later turned to Cunningham, who is in charge of. the new training garrison at Denmark Hill, and said: “Commander Hay will doubtless think- you have taken a page out of the book at Melbourne and Sydney.” Brigadier Smith added: “The General will come back with a new inspiration.”
