HAWEHA ADMINISTRATION. SLUB COMMITTEE MEETING. Preparatory arrangements for the Rawer a Amateur Athletic Club’s opening night carnival of the season, to be he?d oh the show grounds on Thursday, January 31, the first day of the Egmont Racing Club’s summer meeting, were advanced a. further stage at a meeting of the committee held last evening, when there were present: Messrs A. Grant (president), L. H. Clapham (lion, secretary), H. McCabe and L. Hunt. . The business of the meeting consisted chiefly of details of organisation affecting the sports gathering: Particular attention was drawn to the closing date for entries, it being explained that such must be lodged with the secretary (Mr iClaphani) or Mr L. I: Martel' by January 21 (Monday week). The donation of £1 Is as an annual contribution from, Mr. A. S. Rogers, of Hawera, was reported by the club 1 captain (Mr Hunt), and it was.decided v to forward a letter of thanks. t Advice was received from the Toko Sports Club 1 that a snorts meeting < would he held at 1 oko on March , under the jurisdiction of the New , Zealand Athletic and Cycle Union and permission requested lor the inclusion ' of four amateur events on the pro- . gramme. It was proposed, said the t Toko Club’s letter, that if permission I 5 was granted the amateur events be t handicaps of 100 yards, 220 vards. 880 i yards, and one mile, anil that prizes I not less than £2 10s in value be i awarded in each event. _ ‘ On the suggestion of the president t that the matter be referred to the centre, the secretary reported that several letters bad been forwarded to the centre during the last two months, t but that no replies' to the correspond- ' once had been received. The letters I included the application made on be- < half of the Caledonian Society requesting permission to include amn- 1 teur events at the Stratford sports on i January 24. The neglect on the part of the | centre to reply to the oorresnondence < drew critical comment from tlie meet- ] ing. and it was decided that the club j grant the permission requested by j both the Toko Sports Club and the ( Caledonian Society, and that the cen- ( tre be notified accordingly, together | with a request that the action be approved. , It was reported that owing to the allowance, in error, of only four instead of six feet handicap to M. Bailey in the shot putting event at the evening sports meeting on Wednesday, A. E.~ Gilliver (35ft 6in) and

W. Itilter Oli't Giin) —the figures inhaling the respective handicaps of eglit and seven feet—liad been wrongly declared second and third respectively to S. A. Lay (3-51't llin, including sft handicap), the correct position being that Bailey, with a putt of 2911 7^in and a handicap of 6ft, was second with 35ft 7Jin, and Gilliver third.
