BANKRUPTCY RETURNS.

SOUTH TARANAKI STATISTICS. The bankruptcy returns for 1928, as supplied by the D.0.A., Mr. R, S. Sage, show a great improvement on the previous year. The statistics for 192 S show a decrease in the number of bankrupts by six, there being twenty-four for the year just ended, as against thirty for the 1927 period. The list of trades and professions affected is appended, where it will be seen that farmers were the chief sufferers. Liabilities to unsecured creditors for 192 S were £4491, debts proved being £15,343. For the previous year the liabilities to unsecured creditors were £22,940, the total debts proved being set down at £15,480.
