At Frankfort, Madame Naima Sahlbom presided at the International Conference on modern methods of warfare, convoked by the International Women’s League For Peace and Liberty. The conference specially gave attention tp the use of poison gas and the protection of civilians. Many international scientists and military experts were present. Professor Lewin of Berlin, condemned the use of poison gas in war as cowardly. It was defenceless because there was iiq antidote. It was so repugnant that it must be regarded as a crime against humanity. _ His description was so horrifying that many women left the hall in tears.
Professor MacArtney, of Britain, said that he thought it would be impossible to control chemical industry so as to prevent the manufacture of poison gas for warfare. The only satisfactory method was to attack all forms of warfare and enedavour to remove the wair spirit.
