PANGOLIN WINS THE CUP. HOKITIKA, Dec. 26. The Westland Racing Club’s summer meeting took place in perfect weather witn a large attendance, y-he course was in splendid order. The fields were small. The totalisator handled £7272, compared with £8179 on the first day last year. Results are: Phoenix Handicap, of 90 sovs; six and a half furlongs.—s After Ten 1, 3 Bright Spear 2, 4 AVharfedale 3. Won by a. length, with throe lengths between second and third. Time, 1.24. Tasman Hurdles, of 100 sovs; one and a half miles.—l Erin-go-Bragh 1, 2 Picanniny 2, 4 Gay Gauntlet 3. Won by two. lengths, with eight lengths, between second and tim'dTime, 2.49 2-5. Westland' Cup,, of 200 sovs; one mile.—l Pangolin 1,2 Smithereens 2, 3 Gold Mint 3. Won by a. length, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.45 4-5. Christmas Handicap, of 100 sovs; five and a half furlongs.—2 Single Spear 1, 3 Anthonie 2, 8 King Cheops 3.
