CHRISTMAS RETURNS.
A HEAVY TIME.
The staffs of the Post and Telegrapn Orfiee at Hawera have had a very busy, time over the Christmas period, and generally there has been a. marked increase in returns oyer last year for the week preceding Christmas Day, and 1927 was a particularly heavy 'time for the staffs. The postmaster has supplied the following particulars: Mails bandied for week preceding Christmas (last year’s figures being given in parentheses): Outwards, bags 464 (429), hampers 156 (150); inwards, bags 519 (508), hampers 231 (239); increase in bags 48, decrease in hampers 2.
