THE HOLIDAYS.
BOXING DAY SPOILT BY RAIN
Many of the fixtures arranged for Boxing Day had to be postponed on account of the. wet weather, prevailing. It was a very useful rain from the point of view of the farmer, and meant a great deal to the dairyman especially. It will serve to maintain the milk supply and to increase the-cheques for January. Bub it did not suit the sports gatherings, and, as a result, the tennis tourney at Hawera courts had to be postponed until to-day. The. Ohawe carnival and the Kaupokonui beach picnic were also off for the day. The Ohawe function will lie held on New Year’s Day. The committee held a meeting early in the morning and .ame to this decision.
It was a great disappointment to the many hundreds of people who look forward to Boxing Day as one of the great outings of the year. .
