ANTARCTIC PROBLEMS

WILKINS SOLVES ONE.

great souther continent.

GRAHAMLAND NOT JOINED

(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph

Copyright.) (Australian Press Association—United Service.) Received 11.45 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 20. Sir Hubert Wilkins, in a copyright message states: Grahamland is separated from tlie great polar continent by an ice filled channel. This question, which has puzzled geographers for ages, was solved to-day. a flight in the monoplane beyond the volcanic mountains in Grahamland enabling ms to see 650 miles south over the Antarctic continent. This proved conclusively that the range does not extend uninterruptedly. It has previously been the belief of science that the mountains in Grahamland extended towards the pole, and perhaps beyond. We disproved that to-day. We also j gained an important sight of the geo-, graphical formation of tlie little known land of ice. A runway of half a mile I had to be cleared through the snow and 1 the take-off was verv difficult.
