TABLOID' SYSTEM ADOPTED. 300 COMPETITORS. For two hours* during the forenoon yesterday, the playing area at Eltham School w.as occupied by a mixed athletic meeting to mark the annual “breakup” for the mid-summer vacation. Ten events were contested By teams of ten, the total number of competitors engaged being 300. The programme oomprised high, jump, long jump, climping rope, throwing cricket ball, and the following races : Egg and spoon, sack, three-legged, skipping, potato, and 75 yards flat. Each event was contested simultaneously by ten teams of boys and ten teams of girls under what is known as the “tabloid”, system of athletics. This was tried for the first time and worked exceedingly well, the youthful competitors tailing to the innovation enthusiastically. The principle lent itself to the expeditious handling of a large number of competitors in a very small space of time, and it was estimated that yesterday’s programme could, on a second trial, be completed in one hour. Points were awarded to each competing team in every event and the final results were : —• Boys.—Cliff Burgess’ team (105 points) 1, S. Jennings’s team (104 points) 2, F. Maslin’s team (96 points) 3Girls. —K. Smith’s team (86 points) 1, V. Oarncross’ and M. Carter’s teams (79 points each) tied for second place, R. Onions’s team (78 points) 3. Other competing teams, with points scored, were captained by.—Boys : B. Syminans (93), A. R.yburn (86), A. Bridger (81), S. Jenkins (78), N. Glentworth (77), S. McKay (76), A. Frost (72); girls. S.
